Tom Cassedy is the warehouse manager at Sensible Heating & Cooling, and he shared with us his passion for this industry and why he loves being a part of this team.
How long have you been working in the HVAC industry?
I’ve been working in this industry for six years, and I actually stumbled upon it. I came from a strong purchasing background, and I used to be a buyer for warehouses.
What drew you to this line of work?
This is a cutting-edge industry, and it’s forever changing. There’s always something new and exciting to learn about. And we do a lot of geothermal work in addition to your average equipment install.
Did you have any specific education or training?
We’re always learning from Phil Jensen, one of Sensible’s owners, and he’s always encouraging us to take ongoing classes and training. It’s really nice to be working with such smart people.
What is your favorite part about working in this industry?
I like that everything changes day to day, so you have to be flexible. This is a hands-on job, and we help each other out whenever we can. It’s also nice to have such a well-rounded job. I get to manage, and I also get to do some purchasing. It definitely keeps you busy.
How do you like being a part of the Sensible team?
I started with Sensible at the end of 2021, and I instantly knew that I was in a good place. I’m happy to be working here; it’s a really comforting place to work. We have a great work-life balance, and there’s a good dynamic with the team. We all have different work habits, but we’re all hard workers. We walk our talk and are sincere in all we do.
What excites you about the green energy movement?
Working at Sensible comes with bragging rights, and I’m proud to work for such a recognized company. We’re approached by other techs about our geothermal work, and our reputation often precedes us. Our owners and our team are a force to be reckoned with. It feels great to be around such talent in both heating and cooling and geothermal.
And everyone here truly cares about the work. It gives you a sense of comfort being here.
What would you tell someone looking to join the Sensible team?
You’ve got to work hard. There’s great growth potential in this industry, and this work is in high demand, which means job security. And good companies like Sensible can be hard to come by. You’re able to do your job well, and the culture is great. I see myself having a rewarding long-term career here.
What do you enjoy doing your time off?
I’m a native Coloradan and like to spend my time outdoors fly fishing. I also love to spend time with my two boxers.
