Frank Hernandez is a technician and installer with Sensible Heating & Cooling, and he shared with us his passion for this industry and why he loves being a part of this team.
How long have you been working in the HVAC industry?
I’ve been working in this industry for four years, and before joining the trade, I had previously worked in management.
What drew you to this line of work?
This is a growing industry that pays and hires well. There’s always something to keep up with as the industry is constantly changing, so we take classes and training.
Did you have any specific education or training?
Sensible provides us with great educational and training opportunities as part of our benefits. I’ve taken carrier, supply house, and manufacturer classes.
What is your favorite part about working in this industry?
I enjoy doing the installs, and every day is something different. We do a lot of geothermal work as a green company, and working on heat pumps is something I look forward to.
How do you like being a part of the Sensible team?
I’ve been with Sensible for over a year now, and I enjoy the quality of work. We are always learning and growing as a company. Phil Jensen, one of Sensible’s owners, is always helping us out. He meets one-on-one with the team and will come out to the job sites. He’s a very involved and hands-on owner. I’ve worked for other HVAC companies, but Sensible is different. You can tell how much everyone cares and wants to do the job correctly.
The team is also great. Everyone’s always willing to help each other out on different jobs. We’re appreciative of the work-life balance and time off we have, and it makes us want to work even harder. A lot of us will stay late just to help out because we want to.
What excites you about the green energy movement?
There are only a few companies in Colorado doing geothermal work, and we’re one of them. Most customers are familiar with green energy and are looking for geothermal systems which we can provide. Plus, they know the quality of our work and the products we stand behind.
We’re also a green company which is exciting. We recycle everything and really practice what we preach on the job.
What would you tell someone looking to join the Sensible team?
I would tell them that we work together as a team and we are always learning. There are always training opportunities to move you forward. And everyone here knows what they’re doing. There’s a quality to the work we do, and you can see the difference. This is also an industry you can grow and find longevity in.
What do you enjoy doing your time off?
I love spending time with my family. We’re always getting together at my dad’s house.
