Meet Sensible Team Member: Amanda Jachym

Every Sensible team member has something of value to bring to the work we do and to contribute to the industry as a whole. We are an HVAC company founded on the belief that all Coloradans should have accessible and affordable ways to add geothermal, solar, and heat pumps to their homes, and it is a value we work towards every single day.

Amanda Jachym is the newest Sales Coordinator to join the Sensible Heating & Cooling team, and she’s shared with us how she feels about being a part of the HVAC industry.

How familiar were you with the HVAC industry before joining the Sensible team?

I previously worked for The Nature Conservancy, so I’ve always been passionate about protecting our planet and finding ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And I first learned about Sensible in 2021, when my family and I decided to add a geothermal system to our home. Not only was it a seamless process, but Phil Jensen, one of the owners, walked us through the entire process step by step. He answered all of our questions in a timely and thorough manner, and customers he had previously worked with couldn’t stop gushing about how much they appreciated Sensible and how happy they were with the work they had done on their homes.

Everything Sensible is doing when it comes to home electrification is impressive—they’re truly helping homeowners electrify their homes in a tangible way.

What drew you to this line of work and Sensible in particular?

We’re currently facing a climate crisis, which means we need all hands on deck. There is something that every single one of us can be doing to help—riding a bike rather than jumping in a car to run errands, avoiding single-use plastic, using more energy-efficient appliances, purchasing an electric car, adding solar panels, or investing in a geothermal system. We can all do something and some of the things we can do cost nothing. And after getting to know Sensible, I love that they are working to make a difference one home at a time. That’s a team and a mission that I can get behind.

What are you excited to bring to the table in your new role?

I have boundless energy, which is a plus! Because when we’re thinking about the climate, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and feel paralyzed. But I try to get out of bed each day and see the opportunity I have to make a new contribution.

What’s your favorite part about working in this industry so far?

I love the Sensible team! Phil is a true leader, which is rare to find. While he has lots of responsibility, he always remains positive and is encouraging to all of us. And there’s a real team effort going on here. We’re always learning and staying on top of new technologies.

Like many industries, in HVAC the technology is changing all of the time. Things are possible today that weren’t possible even just five years ago. Sensible is working to stay ahead of the curve and track what’s coming and what is possible for our customers. We stay well-informed about the latest technologies so that we can inform our customers to the best of our knowledge. You want to be talking with an HVAC contractor who’s taken the time to be cutting-edge, so you can hear the newest information and figure out what the best possible solution is for your home.

What do you think about the training and education that Sensible offers?

Sensible has a forward-thinking approach, which is great. The team knows that electrification is the future and Sensible is on the leading edge and Colorado’s leading geothermal expert for a reason. As far as the training goes, some of our vendors provide specific training for our installers, and we also have training for our sales team, like myself. This has been beneficial in helping me understand the systems we use, so I can craft the perfect solution for what a customer needs at any given moment. And we’ll always keep learning as a team because the technology we use is always evolving.

What excites you about the green energy movement and home electrification?

In my previous work, I learned about the importance of building electrification. I learned how much greenhouse gas is being emitted from the built environment, and I wanted to take action, which is why my husband and I invested in geothermal for our home. I’m excited about this movement and what Sensible is doing because they’re taking action in a very tangible way. It can take years to move the needle forward when it comes to the climate, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all do our part today. The work we’re doing with electrification is tangible and happening in a reasonable timeline which helps me to have great hope for our future and our children’s future.

Something else that’s exciting is that Xcel Energy is currently working on a renewable energy Power Pathway that will benefit communities across our state. This means that homeowners across Colorado will be able to use renewable energy to power their homes, even if they don’t have rooftop solar. Renewable energy just makes sense. The cost to generate renewable energy has fallen dramatically and already costs less than fossil fuels. Electrifying your home, and using renewable energy to power it, reduces monthly utility bills, helps with indoor air quality, and is better for the planet. Plus, you can make these kinds of changes and upgrades to your home over time.

If you’re interested in electrification and what’s possible for your home, then you should absolutely have a Sensible expert talk you through your options. Also, there has never been a better time to electrify your home. The rebates are fantastic right now!

How do you like being a part of the Sensible team, and what are your future goals?

My short-term goal is to be as helpful as possible to the individuals who have been in this business for a long time. Long-term, once I’ve acquired the industry knowledge I need, I aspire to be an outside salesperson—I’ve been told that my enthusiasm is contagious.

What would you tell someone who is looking to join the Sensible team?

This is a forward-thinking, mission-driven small business. Sensible has a great way of supporting and taking care of you because there’s a family atmosphere here. My sense is that everyone on the team wants to contribute because we all believe in the mission we’re working toward. It’s a great feeling to be a part of a team like this one.

What do you enjoy doing during your time off?

I am a voracious reader, and I’m at the library all of the time. I also spend lots of time outdoors hiking and walking my dog. And when I’m not at the library or outside, you can find me hanging out with my husband and kids, or playing Pickleball with my girlfriends.
