Should I Use An Air Conditioner Cover?

This is a great time of year for us because we are getting a chance to catch up with some of our clients while we perform air conditioner tune-ups. Of course part of our service includes a complete clean of the air conditioner. And we tend to get a certain question over and over: Should I keep a cover on my air conditioner during the winter?

The answer that we give is NO. And here is why:

  • If you have a cover and someone accidentally turns it on with the cover on, you will burn up the compressor.
  • Air conditioners are meant to be outside all year long. They are designed to handle all of the weather that Mother Nature can throw at them.
  • Don’t worry about your air conditioner getting dirty.  As long as you get your air conditioner serviced once a year you have nothing to worry about.

Just remember that you shouldn’t clean your air conditioner yourself – let the pros handle that for you. You have electricity running to your unit and spraying water onto it without knowing what you are doing could be very dangerous.

If you have any questions about keeping your air conditioner running in tip-top shape, please call Dan Schmied at 720-876-7166 or email him directly at [email protected].
