Let Your Air Conditioner Breathe!

In the spirit of summer, we have another tip to share with you regarding your air conditioner. Here it is: It is very important for your air conditioner to have lots air to run. (That may sound a little silly but hear us out.)

Many people like to try to hide their air conditioner – enclose it behind a wall, hide it under a deck or do something to make it a less obvious fixture in their backyard. This is a very bad idea! You see, your air conditioner is taking hot air from your home and replacing it with cool air. The hot air needs somewhere to go!

If you enclose your air conditioner you are going to put stress on the unit and potentially damage your compressor because you are just allowing the hot air to build up in the enclosed area.

Additionally, if you have your air conditioner in an enclosed area it makes it difficult for an HVAC technician to reach your unit for service and repairs. You certainly don’t want to have to take apart a deck each time you need your tune ups! And just so you know, most warranties are not going to be valid if you don’t have adequate air for your air conditioner.

So, our advice to you is to let your air conditioner breathe! Put it somewhere where there is ample room on all four sides so the hot air can escape and your HVAC technician can have easy access.
