Is your air conditioner acting up in this hot weather? A lot of the calls we get to our office have fairly quick fixes, so here are some tips to figure out if your A/C needs a service call or not. Please remember that these are not guarantees, and that we don’t recommend trying any repairs yourself.
· Dirty Air Filter: A lot of people don’t realize that your A/C actually runs off of your furnace, and it is necessary to change your furnace filter throughout the year to keep your system running well. If your A/C stops, make sure your air filter is clean, because a dirty filter can stop your furnace from running, and therefore the A/C.
· Saver Switch: If you had Xcel install a Saver Switch at some point during the summer, it will shut off your air conditioner if the temperature gets to a certain level. Unfortunately, no HVAC company will be able to help you with that. You will need to call Xcel directly to have them shut off the switch.
· Tripped Breaker: Often when the temps get into the 90s and low 100s, your air conditioner will be running a lot more than normal. At times, this excessive running can trip your breaker, and it simply needs to be reset at the breaker box. It is a good idea to check to make sure the breaker hasn’t been tripped before having a company come out for a service call.
Remember, these are simple things you can check, but if your A/C still isn’t working, please call our office and do not attempt any difficult repairs yourself. We can be reached at 720-876-7166 or via email at [email protected].
