Are you going to sell your house in the near future? Are you in the market for a new home? In either case, you may have heard the importance of getting a certification for the furnace. There can be confusion around how to get the process completed so we have outlined some basic information for you in this post.
When you sell or buy a home, it usually requires a certification of the furnace to prove that it is safe for a new family to move into the home. It basically proves that the heat exchanger is not cracked and therefore not leaking any carbon monoxide into the home.
In order to get the certification, you will need to hire someone to do the inspection. A lot of HVAC companies don’t do it anymore but our team at Sensible Heating & Cooling can certainly complete the certification process for you. We are happy to do the work whether you are the buyer or the seller. The work can usually be done in 2-3 hours.
The certification work does cost money but it is certainly cheaper than replacing the furnace altogether. And remember, all furnaces over five years old are usually required to be certified before the sale can take place.
