To ensure that you are getting the most from your HVAC system, fixing leaky ducts should be a priority. Ducts are what take your heated or cooled air from the source (either AC or furnace) to your living space. Having leaky ducts is similar to leaving a window open while your AC or furnace is running–it can result in a 20% loss of heated or cooled air. This is a big negative from an efficiency, cost, and environmental perspective.
Fixing leaky ducts can also help to fix hot or cold spots* in a home. For instance, if your basement is often way out of whack with the temperature of the rest of the house, it could be because the air is leaking so badly that it is dumping into the basement. A well-functioning HVAC system should result in even heating and cooling throughout the home.
How to Fix Leaky Ducts
As part of our HVAC services, we can test, seal, and insulate ducts. When we are doing a furnace or AC install, we seal and insulate any leaky ducts that we notice. But if you aren’t sure whether your problem is a leaky duct or an old, faulty furnace, we can use a camera to inspect the ducts and assess whether a furnace replacement or duct repair is the better course of action.
Suspect that you might have leaky ducts? Give us a shout at 720.876.7166 or [email protected], and we can come out and take a look.
*If you are experiencing hot and cold spots in your home, we can also assess whether the issue is a leaky duct or something like bad duct layout or sizing. In this case, zoning might be the solution.
