Which Way Are Your Fans Spinning?

If you have a ceiling fan in your home you know that they
are a great way to keep air circulating. And certainly people always associate
fans with keeping cool during the summer months. But, did you know that you
should be changing the direction that your fan rotates depending on the time of
year to get the maximum benefit? Well, you should!

Here is a quick tip: During the summer months your ceiling
fan should rotate counterclockwise and during the winter months your ceiling
fan should rotate clockwise.

During the summer the counterclockwise direction will
actually push the cooler air downward making the air feel cooler, making you
feel more comfortable.  The opposite is
true during the winter months. When your ceiling fan is rotating clockwise the
warm air is pulled down and creates a warming feeling because you are
redistributing the warm air.

No matter what time of year a ceiling fan can help reduce
your energy bills because you are making your home more comfortable for you and
your family without running your air conditioning or furnace as often.

Most ceiling fans will have a reverse switch on the fan to
make the seasonal change easy for homeowners. If not, look at your wall control
or remote control for access to the direction switch.
