Spring HVAC Maintenance

A lot of our clients are accustomed to performing their fall maintenance for their furnace, but what maintenance should you perform in the spring to keep your HVAC equipment running at top condition? Here are a few basic tips to make sure you aren’t suffering in a 100 degree heat wave this summer.

Spring A/C Maintenance: Make sure to call us to perform your spring maintenance on your A/C. During the fall and winter, your outside unit will accumulate dirt and dust, as well as other outside debris. We will make sure the unit is clear and clean, helping it to run at optimum efficiency during the summer. We will also make sure the coil is clean and running well, which will help keep your furnace running well too. Typically we like the temperature to be at least 70 degrees outside to make sure we can fully check the pressures and Freon levels for the best operation during the hot weather.
Change Your Furnace Filter: A lot of people don’t realize it, but your A/C actually uses the blower motor from the furnace to push the cooler air through the ducts in your home. If your furnace filter is dirty, it will decrease the efficiency of both the outdoor unit, and the furnace, so make sure you change your filter in the spring just as you would in the fall.
No Start-Up is Necessary: Unless you have an evaporative cooler, you can typically just flip on your air conditioner as soon as the weather is hot enough. Most of the time we recommend waiting until it is at least 70 degrees before turning on your air conditioner, but it won’t harm the A/C if it is cooler outside.
