Radiant Floor Heating

One option available for heating that is less expensive than geothermal, but more energy efficient than traditional systems is radiant floor heating. Here are a few facts about radiant floor to consider when upgrading your heating system.

· How it Works: Radiant floor heating works through tubes that are installed under the floor of your home. The tubes are either electric, hydronic (water-filled) or filled with warm air. The system works largely through convection, meaning that the heat rises from the floor, and creates a warm room. Because of this, systems often need to run much less than traditional systems, and are much more energy efficient.

· Installation & Repairs: The installation of radiant floors can be a bit tricky as a retrofit, however they are an excellent fit for a remodel or a new build since they can be installed before the floor coverings. They are also a great option during a kitchen or bathroom remodel, since many people prefer more warmth in these rooms. Likewise, repairs can be a bit tough if the problem is not obvious, because the floor often has to be torn up to find the issue.

· Other Uses: Radiant systems are also great for driveways or patios, as they naturally melt the ice and snow for homeowners, and can be installed in a new home. Most homeowners we have worked for love their radiant floor systems, and find they spend a lot less money over the course of the winter on these systems.
