New Construction & Alternative Energy Options

With the new construction market picking up again, more homeowners are opting for custom-built homes. There are quite a few energy options that are available now that were not around several years ago when custom built homes were popular. Here are a few options that homeowners who are looking to build in 2013 should consider.

· Geothermal Heat: Geothermal heat pumps are a great option, especially for new construction homes. Since geothermal systems require a loop to be installed underground, it is much easier to dig the trench and install the loop before the home is built. These systems are also capable of being hooked up to radiant floor systems, which are also easier to install before the floor is laid. Geothermal systems have great tax credits available, and your energy bills will be much lower than with a traditional system. In addition, these systems will also provide your home’s cooling, which eliminates the need for a separate cooling system to be installed.

· Solar Panels: If your home is a good fit, you can also consider installing solar voltaic panels on your roof to help utilize the sun’s energy for your home as well. Although they are typically installed by electricians, Sensible Heating & Cooling can refer you to a good company who can help you decide if this will work well for your home.

· Solar Hot Water Heaters: Solar hot water heaters are a great way to save money on your energy bills, and they are a great option for Colorado homes since we have so many days of sun each year. They are more expensive than traditional water heaters, but they also last much longer and work very effectively.
