HVAC UV Light Improves Indoor Air Quality

Being cooped up inside for months has many disadvantages, but since we still have a while to go before summer, there is one thing you can do to make yourself a little more comfortable in your home. Installing an HVAC UV light can help prevent the spread mold and bacteria in your home, therefore allowing you and your family to avoid allergy triggers and seasonal illnesses.

Benefits to a HVAC UV Light

Most HVAC UV lights are installed inside the return air duct to sterilize the air handler coil. It prevents mold or bacteria from growing on the coil.

In conjunction with good indoor air quality practices (like sealing ducts, installing high-quality filters, and performing regular HVAC maintenance), an HVAC UV light can contribute to better air quality in your home.

HVAC UV light benefits:

  • Control mold and bacteria. This means reduced symptoms for asthma and allergy sufferers as well as fewer colds and flus.
  • Reduce smells and odors – including VOCs.
  • Reduce clogging in condensate drains – by preventing algae growth
  • Improve efficiency – by keeping your coil cleaner

One downside to HVAC UV lights is that you do have to replace them about once a year. But we think the benefit of cleaner air definitely outweighs that cost.
