Goodman Furnaces vs. York Furnaces

At Sensible, we choose to carry York furnaces not only because they are an old company with user-friendly equipment and excellent warranties, but also because they have an awesome local distributor that is very accommodating and great at backing up the products. But we’ve gotten questions from customers in Colorado looking specifically for Goodman furnaces, so we thought it would be helpful to address whether a certain furnace brand is really better than another.

Goodman furnaces are on the tip of many customers’ tongues because they are the largest furnace manufacturer in the world. When they purchased Amana, several years ago, they  took the Amana reputation for quality and incorporated it into their product. And Goodman furnaces are definitely a good product, but like all lines of equipment, they have a lower line and a higher line, with associated lower or higher warranties.

Another thing to think about when considering furnace brands is that often the most expensive equipment, including other “top brands” like Carrier or Lennox, requires you to use factory parts for repairs. So not only are the systems more expensive to install, they often cost the consumer much more down the line for repairs. Think about it like needing to go to the dealer rather than a general auto parts store for a car repair.

Ultimately, even if you buy the most expensive equipment on the market, if it’s installed by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing, it won’t last as long or be as efficient as it could be. In fact, it can even be dangerous to the consumer, with the potential for fires, water damage, and CO poisoning.

While certain equipment lines might have the occasional problem or certain benefits, we really believe that one isn’t better than another. The bottom line is that Goodman furnaces, York furnaces, and others can all get the job done, but your contractor is truly the most important part of any equipment purchase.
