We get a lot of questions each year about whether or not you need to check your air conditioner’s Freon. Although it is a good idea to have a full air conditioner check-out each year, it is not necessary or even advisable to check your Freon yourself. Here are a few things that are covered in our normal 24 point checkout:
Check the Pressures: The pressure check that our technicians perform does include a Freon check, and the technician will let you know if this is an issue. Overall, they will check to make sure the air conditioner will run optimally, and we do prefer to have our techs come out when the temperature is above 70 degrees to make sure everything is working as well as possible on those 90 degree days.
Check the Coil: The technician will check the coil to make sure it is clean and clear of debris. The outdoor coil is a very important part of the overall system, and we often see coils that are completely clogged and dirty. Our tech will make sure it is working well, because this is often the cause of issues during the hot weather.
Change the Indoor Filters: Our technicians will also check and change the indoor filters on the furnace, because it is important for your furnace to be working well during the summer months as well. Since the cool air will be pushed through your home using the blower motor on your furnace, we want to make sure that everything is working well for the A/C as well.
