As winter approaches, and we face another cold and flu season, a lot of our clients are asking us if they should have their air ducts professionally cleaned. Here are a few indicators that it might be a good idea to invest in air duct cleaning this winter:
· Allergy & Asthma Sufferers: If you have allergy or asthma sufferers in your household, it would probably help them have a healthier winter to get your ducts cleaned, especially if you are concerned about the flu. Germs, dust and other particles do collect in your ducts, and decrease the indoor air quality of your home. Anyone with respiratory problems would likely benefit from a better home environment, especially in the winter when people tend to spend more time inside.
· Pets: If you have pets in your home, there is a good chance that a lot of hair and pet dander have accumulated in your ducts. Cleaning the ducts to remove the hair and keep it from circulating back through your ducts will help your air quality, and also extend the life of your furnace. Pet hair is very hard on your system, and keeping the ducts clean can help keep your furnace running more efficiently and for a longer time.
· Recent Construction or Remodel Projects: If you have recently had your home built, or had a remodel project done that created a lot of dust, it might be a good time to have your ducts cleaned. The dust will accumulate in your ducts, and can cause problems with your furnace, and will certainly decrease your indoor air quality if it continues to sit in there.
