If spring-cleaning has you gasping at the sight of your home’s air conditioning unit, don’t work yourself into a tailspin. And whatever you do, don’t rush off to the nearest home improvement store or ecommerce site to purchase a cover for your unit. At Sensible Heating & Cooling, we think air conditioners are better off without them, no matter the weather. Here’s why:
· Air conditioners are designed to reside outdoors. This means they’re sturdy enough to withstand Mother Nature’s harshest and murkiest conditions.
· Extreme dirt won’t compromise your air conditioner’s performance. Besides a little dirt never hurt anyone.
· Your air conditioning unit might not be the only thing taking shelter beneath the cover. Often times rodents seek refuge here, too; causing larger issues than weather alone.
· Temperatures can change all too quickly (after all, we live in Colorado) and homeowners forget to remove the cover before turning an A/C unit on. This can lead to overheated compressors and emergency repairs.
The moral of this blog post – save the covering desires for patio furniture and precious vegetation. Annual air conditioner maintenance and protective measures are better left to the heating and cooling professionals. And whatever you do, do not attempt to clean your unity by simply spraying it off with a hose. The unit runs on electricity. Water and electricity don’t mix.
