Xcel Energy Turns up the Savings on Residential AC Rebate Program; Trade-in Program Retired

Get paid to cool your home. It doesn’t have to be the Dog Days of Summer to plan ahead for home cooling strategies. And if you’ve got plans to trade-in or upgrade your home’s outdated AC unit, this message is for you. Effective Monday, Oct. 1, Xcel Energy will make changes to its residential AC rebates and trade-in program. These changes are intended to simplify the program, while increasing the value of eligible rebates available to homeowners. Xcel Energy hopes increased rebate values will bring more customers more savings.

Changes to Residential AC Rebate Program

  • AC Unit Trade-in: The final day to submit trade-in rebate applications for dated units is Sunday, Sept. 30. Beyond this date, Xcel will no longer accept trade-in applications. According to research and recent data, trade-ins are no longer sustainable as the value and lifespan of older model units continue to decrease with each passing year.
  • AC Unit Upgrade: When you upgrade your home’s AC unit to one with a standard efficiency of 15 Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) and under, 5 Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and up, you’re now eligible for a $300 rebate. This is up $200 from the previous rebate program. When you upgrade to a high-efficiency unit with 15 SEER and up, you’re now eligible for a $600 rebate. To apply for either of these rebates, you must have a participating Xcel Energy contractor complete the installation according to Xcel’s Quality Installation requirements, obtain an AHRI certificate for your newly installed unit and submit along with a completed rebate application to Xcel Energy.
